Polymathematica The Cleaning and Preservation of Metals - Resources

SPECIALS

Don't bother with these unless you're bored with your Hand Tools. The gizmos below form part of a growing listing to get you thinking, Do I really want to do this to my coin?:

An ultrasonic water bath
Some swear by it - ok for modern material. But ancient metals often suffer from corrosion deep in the matrix - an ultrasonic water bath can shake an ancient silver coin to fine powder.

A dentist's ultrasonic needle
is an incredible tool and makes very easy work of removal of the hardest of deposits. It also makes very easy work of removing the date from modern coins, putting holes through silver pennies and running unrestorable scratches across any artifact. Buy cheap and use with care.

A small hand held vacuum cleaner
to remove the dust from a being cleaned surface. Rigged-up with a wide drinking straw and a tube, a fine suction point can be produced to constantly clean-up your work. Polymathematica has yet to get around to bothering with this, although very useful when using an ultrasonic needle for extended periods.
